Have you often wondered how people got started on a hobby like collecting Farm Toys? I have. It simply amazes me sometime the extent of these collections. Hearing the stories often makes me smile since the start usually came from a young boy’s childhood. There is no sweeter memory than grandpa on his tractor plowing the fields or harvesting the crops. As adults these men would desire a symbol of that distant past and turn to the farm toy model of that tractor. My own husband has started collecting some farm toys that replicate what his father and his grandfathers had when he was growing up. I hope to one day pass them down to my boys.
The Toy Farmer magazine features a collector and his/her collection. The people they interview are honored and proud that their collection is being featured. Not for bragging rights but simply to share the joy of collecting. They gather often and even have their own groups. Even for the guys who make a living out re-selling the farm toys they always have their own little stash put away that has special meaning to them. The “Cream of the Crop” you could say.
Let’s hear your story of how you started…..send your story to jodi@aumannauctions.com or post it to our blog aumannauctions.blogspot.com Pictures are welcome. Submissions will be posted to the Aumann Auctions, Inc. blog page.
